Thomas Wall was a past chairman of the Irvine Valley College Foundation and the Irvine Chamber of Commerce. He completed a distinguished 20-year military career with more than 1,000 combat missions flown in Vietnam. Being a civic-minded individual, he understood the meaning of courage, pride and honor. Those who knew Wall were inspired by his enthusiasm for life and his generosity. Before his passing in 2006, Tom Wall established a Lt. Col. Thomas U. Wall Scholarship Fund at the Irvine Chamber of Commerce.

Through his generosity, an endowment bearing his name has been created so that, in perpetuity, an annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student leader at Irvine Valley College. The scholarship is awarded to an applicant who is a U.S. resident, U. S. military veteran, child or grandchild of a U.S. military veteran, and is pursuing a career path in science, business, or law enforcement at Irvine Valley College.

colvin scholarshipJohn Colvin Memorial Scholarship

The John Colvin Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of John Greg Colvin, a long time-resident of Orange County who died in 2014 while riding his bike training for an Ironman Triathlon. John lived his life focusing on his family, education, fitness and giving back to his community.

This scholarship will be awarded to a student(s) who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to: family, education, fitness, and community. John was a dedicated son, husband and father. He was never prouder than when he spoke of his wife Joan and their two daughters, Natalie and Shayna.

The goal of this scholarship is to award those students that demonstrate qualities and attributes that emulate the way John lived and in doing so, honoring his memory for years to come.

Congratulations to the 2016 recipients Darby Scott and Emerson Chow.

About John Colvin

Colvin was the first in his family to earn a college degree; he attended Redlands University (Irvine campus) and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Colvin had a successful career in logistics and gave back to the community through his work at the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce. He held several leadership positions at the Chamber including serving as Chairman of the Business Retention and Expansion Committee.

Colvin loved the outdoors and was a passionate mountain biker. He challenged himself to run his first marathon at 40. He qualified for the Boston Marathon following his 50th birthday and at the age of 54, he completed his first triathlon, a half Ironman. Colvin cherished the social aspect of riding bikes and training with a team, whether running, biking or swimming. His optimism and positive outlook was always evident and was infectious to those around him.
