Sixth Annual Orange County World Trade Week Forum

The Greater Irvine Chamber’s Orange County World Trade Week Forum brings together Orange County’s International-American chambers and business associations, public sector and private trade organizations, and members of the business community to grow awareness of the impact of international trade and export in Orange County. OCWTW has drawn thousands of participants since its inaugural 2015 event.

Globalization: Pandemic, Populism, and Power 

Mark O'Connell will examine the impact of COVID-19 on global trade and investment futures. He will particularly examine resilient sectors and markets such as e-commerce, connected health and e-education, lessons-learned from countries that have managed the virus effectively, the impact on supply chains, and how global trade and investment are likely to adapt to new ways of working in the longer term.

Mark O’Connell is the founder and CEO of OCO Global, a leading boutique consultancy firm that specializes in foreign direct investment and international trade, with offices in the leading FDI and trade hubs of New York, London, Paris, Dubai, Frankfurt, Shanghai, and Tokyo, supported by an analytics and back-office research team in Belfast.

O’Connell’s work in international trade and investment spans more than 20 years. His experience includes the private sector for a Saudi investment fund, at PricewaterhouseCoopers specializing in trade and investment advisory work, and at the Irish government export agency Enterprise Ireland. He serves on the board of the International Economic Development Council in the U.S., and is on a number of private sector boards in U.K. and Ireland where he resides.

Jim Mayfield began his assignment with the Irvine Export Assistance Center in 2012, moving on to become director two years later, and most recently, their Acting Pacific South Network Director overseeing operations in Central and Southern California, Hawaii, and Nevada. Previously, Mayfield served as the Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 2009 - 2012. He has also served with the International Trade Administration’s offices in Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Shanghai.

The Irvine Export Assistance Center advises and assists Orange County-area companies with international sales and export plans, focusing on healthcare and manufacturing technologies, consumer products, and infrastructure, among other industries. Mayfield and his team leverage the ITA’s global network—with offices in 75 countries—to assist clients with all aspects of exporting, from researching potential markets and finding qualified distributors to developing market-entry strategies and tackling market access barriers.

Barry Cosgrave is a partner in the Banking & Asset Finance practice group of K&L Gates LLP, dividing his time between the firm’s London and Dubai offices. Cosgrave concentrates his practice on distressed debt and restructuring, debt capital markets, structured finance, and Islamic finance. He currently serves on the advisory board for H.E. Chantol Sun, the Cambodian Minister of Commerce and is a former board member of Princeton’s Institute for International and Regional Studies.

Ken Wengrod is one of the country’s leading financial advisers, and co-founder of FTC Commercial Corp., a global commercial finance corporation with domestic and international clienteles, primarily serving the apparel industry and consumer products. Wengrod was appointed in 2019 to serve on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on small and minority businesses by U.S. Secretary of CommerceWilbur Ross and U.S. Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer. He serves on the U.S. Department of CommerceTrade Finance Advisory Council, and the District Export Council of Southern California. In 2018, Wengrod was presented with the Presidents E-Award for Export Service.
